This is Survivor Civic Election like we’ve never seen before.
As I’ve been saying here and there, we get to watch the politicians react to new developments every day and decide whether they’re reflecting our values.
That has made this election unlike anything I can remember. Bob Ransford, who’s been watching politics for a long time, talked to me about the complex dynamics of it all for this story.

I don’t know what is going to happen with this occupy protest but I don’t think it will be as dramatic as people think.
If Gregor gets rid of the tents by the end of the week he wins and if there is violence then Anton can be called on it for saying that the protesters are non violent and will leave peacefully ?? and Gregor wins again.
But there are so many other big issues that people are concerned with that no one is talking about ie transit, community centres, schools closing etc.
At the end of the day tents at VAG don’t look good but they don’t touch the average person. Making parking lots out of Riley Park (saw it in the paper) and closing schools seem to be bigger issues that effect the young and old?
Shouldn’t these be front page news?
Also why am I the only one commenting on these two blogs?

My hunch is this hurting Vision and their polling must show it, otherwise they would be content to let it drag on. I’d be curious to hear which way the Chinese vote is breaking on this. Traditionally not keen on disorder, but then they don’t turn out to the polls in numbers reflecting their demographic clout either.

Excellent overview of the Occupys coming this Friday on Radio-Canada.
Jean Francois LePine, long time Vancouver correspondent for SRC, has a “serious issues” program called One Hour about the Earth on Friday a 9 pm. Watch.

And Marie-Maud Pontbriand is always comparing her reportage on Occupy Quebec (city) with Vancouver coverage.
