Dear readers, any answers to this question that just came in over my blog transom?
An advertisement from a realtor appeared in our mail today, with the usual pictures of houses just sold (prices ranging from over 8 million to 2.5 million). Some of the pictures have “just sold” or “new listing” printed on them, but others have a Chinese word–“anpan” (暗盘). I know some Chinese, but I am so curious what this term refers to! And why just print it in Chinese?

According to Google 暗盘 is “secretly negotiated price”

It refers to an unreported, unofficial or secret transaction. The implication is that the agent thinks the property can be flipped

Actually it just means an exclusive listing, where the listing agent has exclusive license to sell the property.

And here is another interpretation from Twitter:

@fabulavancouver there’s a bit of ambiguity because it’s more of a phrase that is open to interpretation

@fabulavancouver I think the meaning they’re trying to get across is for sale but not publically listed.

given the answers below, this story calls for more investigation and publicity. Why would a realtor advertise a property for sale when it is a secret. It seems to just increase the suspicion that some Chinese realtors have their own set of rules.
