An article in Slate (which I dislike because it reinforces the inaccurate premise that all cyclists run stop signs.)

…”TransLink market research has shown that about two-thirds of the two million people in the Lower Mainland either ride their bikes at some points during the year or are interested in doing so.
So, many have a bike but don’t ride vocationally. We could make the change in 2 years if the city was serious. Cars could be driven, but only out of town or on ‘Moving day’
As it is, these moving couches are a waste, dangerous and too detached from the real life of the day. And I’m watching the Vancouver Police ticket reams of single drivers in the HOV+bicycles lanes on Hastings.

NYC is now also considering lowering fares for the subway during off-peak hours.

Frances,
A nice little story that is fabulously hopeful for Metro Vancouver. Chipping away, chipping away at the car-is-king/queen mindset, which is so powerful. Thanks
